Postnatal Care
Your care doesn’t end once you’ve left the hospital. Dr O’Neill works closely with St John of God Subiaco Hospital to ensure you have a smooth transition home and receive all the support you need, including a home visit from a midwife, breastfeeding support and a range of specific services as required in the early weeks.
Checking In
One of our practice midwives will call you around two weeks after you give birth to make sure that you and your baby are happy and healthy. By this time you will have been seen by a midwife at home (arranged while in hospital) and may already have breastfeeding support organised through the hospital breastfeeding clinic. If further support is required, our practice midwife can guide you in this. Your postnatal appointment can be booked at this stage (if it hasn’t been already).
Your Postnatal Appointment
Dr O’Neill will then see you again at your postnatal appointment six to eight weeks after delivery. It’s an opportunity for Dr O’Neill and our midwife to assess your recovery, your emotional well-being and address any health issues you may have. This is a great time to discuss your labour and birth as well as ask any additional questions. You aren’t required to bring your baby to this appointment, however, Dr O’Neill and her team love the opportunity of getting to properly meet your bundle of joy, so please feel free to bring them with you!
Pre-Appointment Health Care Concerns
If you have any health concerns before the six week mark, you’re more than welcome to contact the office and Dr O’Neill will see you as required. We can also put you in touch with a range of health care professionals should you require this. A neonatal paediatrician will have met you in hospital and have planned follow up for your baby.
